An introduction to our company

Here at Limagrain, we have a unique characteristic that has stood us apart from other companies from the very start, 50 years ago.
It has enabled us to create a unique bond, both with our customers and our employees.
This unique characteristic lies in the combination of a strong regional attachment and international deployment. (4th largest group worldwide and operating in 53 countries).

LIMAGRAIN, BALANCING LOCAL AND GLOBAL

This dual nature is our deeply rooted DNA, as well as our pride. We want our 9,539 permanent employees, wherever they are in the world, to draw their energy from shared roots.

This is what generates their strong feeling of belonging and their pride at working for an exceptional group.

And it is an exceptional group, as we do indeed stand apart from our key international competitors:

  • We have chosen to remain with our core business, namely producing seeds. Indeed, Limagrain does no business in the agrochemical fied

  • We are firmly focused on the genetic progress of plants and create over 300 plant varieties each year

  • We have chosen to draw upon our expertise by creating unique integrated cereal chains in France, from grain to bread

OUR MISSION IS FOR OUR AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVE TO ACT AT GRASSROOTS LEVEL TO PROVIDE YOU WITH RESPONSIBLE AND SUSTAINABLE FOOD

Our planet has more than 7 billion people to feed.
Here at Limagrain, we adopt a responsible attitude to our business. Each decision we take, each seed we create and each solution we design represents a deep commitment.
We want to take action for progress and have a real impact on everyone’s future.

Having respect for the Earth means we can provide sustainable food for mankind.

OUR ORIGINS: LIMAGRAIN IS A STORY OF LOVE AND SHARING AMONG PASSIONATE PEOPLE

The history of our agricultural cooperative goes back over 50 years to land in Auvergne, central France. And yes, we are proud of this incredible regional heritage and we want to share our love of the land with you.

This is why we are always seeking to create close ties with the men and women who farm the land, who are also full of respect and passion for the core of our business, namely producing cereal and vegetable seeds.

Knowing where we come from is crucial for knowing where we’re going.

OUR CULTURE: THOSE WHO SOW THE SEEDS OF EFFORT AND THE DESIRE TO LEARN ARE THOSE WHO HARVEST THE DESIRE TO PROGRESS AND SHARE

Humility, perseverance and teamwork. Here at Limagrain, we believe that no outcome is ever certain.

Moving forward requires ongoing efforts. We need to endlessly adapt and listen when the Earth speaks to us.

This is our leitmotiv, which is a powerful driving force that daily stimulates the men and women that work in our group.

Knowing how to listen is a crucial step for learning.

OUR VISION: TO BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF COLLABORATIVE WORK AND COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE

Here at Limagrain, collective intelligence is a reality. The only genuine form of wealth is people. We are convinced that by working hand-in-hand, uniting the talent of our origins and merging diverse cultures and ideas, we will find the fairest and most equitable solutions.

Knowing how to share our knowledge is vital for opening up to the world.

OUR SHAREHOLDER STRUCTURE: LIMAGRAIN IS BUILT ON UNIQUE SOLIDARITY BETWEEN FARMERS

Cooperation is an integral part of our DNA.
Here at Limagrain, we are attached to our united community of farmers. Indeed, we focus on people rather than on capital. In practical terms, we have chosen to apply the principle of one person = one vote.

This means we have a unique form of governance among the world’s leading seed producers, which is dominated by large agrochemical groups.

Our governance model is based on three main distinguishing features:

  • The Group is managed by a Chairman, who is an elected farmer, and a CEO, who is an employee appointed by the Board of Directors

  • This tandem structure is repeated throughout Limagrain operations worldwide

  • The company’s top executives, irrespective of their country of origin, hold equity in the Cooperative, alongside the farmer members, as “non-cooperator members”. A director, chosen from the top executives, represents them on the Board

The Limagrain cooperative is our parent company and its 1,300 cooperated members form the shareholder base of our Group.
