Supporting WOAgri, for world governance in agriculture.
This meeting, under the high patronage of Christian Poncelet, President of the Senate, Dominique Bussereau, French Minister for Agriculture and Fishing and Christine Lagarde, French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade, assembled 300 guests, politicians, ministerial representatives, representatives from production chains, agricultural organizations, research institutes, embassy advisors, as well as many representatives from countries of the South. In his opening address, Dominique Bussereau, French Minister for Agriculture and Fishing, declared: “I share the same vision of agriculture and in particular I agree that agriculture is a strategic sector, with essential stakes such as the sovereignty of States, food security and the protection of the environment”. Limagrain shares WOAgri’s (World Organization for Agriculture) analysis. Limagrain supports WOAgri and the three principles that guide its actions: inform as many people as possible of the strategic importance of agriculture, provide strong recommendations for the organization of world governance of agriculture and build the instruments for a new international regulation of agriculture. The four round tables, each with six public figures, discussed stakes and proposals:
The conference was a success, with rich debates and all participants listening attentively to analyses and arguments. At a time when, all over the world, voices are being raised to question political decision-makers about the dangers of liberalization without rules, WOAgri’s initiative seems fundamentally sound.
