2 questions for Damien Bourgarel, CEO of the Limagrain Ag-Production division
Less than a year after the merger with Domagri, what has been achieved ?
“Limagrain has reinforced its territorial anchorage since the merger with the Domagri cooperative in December 2009. The Cooperative has welcomed new members. It has gone up from 600 farms that are contractually bound to more than 2,000 in the county of Puy-de-Dôme and the bordering area. Now 2/3 of its members are based in the plain and 1/3 in the hills. If you include all the operational activities that are part of the Limagrain Ag-Production division, there are more than 500 employees with its subsidiaries, as opposed to 250 beforehand. It has also integrated new activities. Alongside its longstanding “Plant Production” activity (seeds and collecting), it has created a new “Distribution” activity incorporating the agricultural supply, animal nutrition and garden centre activities. Our “Plant Production” activity and our agricultural supply activities are now on the right track. We may still need to prove ourselves, but we are confident. The Cooperative's production now covers nearly 50% of field seed acreage in Puy-de-Dome and covers all livestock farmers.”
What is the new animal nutrition offer?
“The Sommet de l'Elevage livestock tradeshow in Clermont-Ferrand last week gave us the opportunity to present Limagrain's new animal nutrition offer. It is available to farmers in the county under the brand name “Domagri , l'alimentation animale (animal feed)” , capitalizing on the renown and respect of Domagri's expertise. We are proposing a competitive offer to livestock breeders, with direct distribution, and benefiting from the synergies created within Groupe Limagrain. Indeed we have chosen to incorporate products from our local agro-industrial chains (corn milling and wheat milling) into our own feed ranges. We are currently in the TOP 5 with 13% market share in the county of Puy-de-Dôme. Our clearly stated objective is to reach around 20% and climb back into the TOP 3. The same brand name will be used for all product families. Already we are proposing dom'lait, dom'nati, dom'agneau.”
